In July 2024, RPL was granted a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant called Rooted in Reading, which focuses on sustainability and green spaces within the library. Our Summer Reading theme this year is Branching Out, which complements our grant with the ability to try new things in a sustainable environment. Rather than print out thousands of papers or give away plastic prizes, we wanted to focus on the true nature (get it?) of a summer reading program: reading!
Branching Out is for children, teens, and adults and includes 9 events that feature recycled materials, homemade games, snacks, and reading time. Sign up via our online calendar for any of these events.
We are hosting 6 parties this summer to promote some reading fun! Each Branching Out party will be themed and feature games, snacks, and reading. Sign up for one or sign up for all 6. These parties are only for those entering grades 1-6.
June 20 @ 10 AM: Readers' Reef
June 26 @ 6 PM: Planets and Pages
July 15 @ 11 AM: Arctic Adventure
Our giraffe friend will be hidden around storefronts in Reading from June 23 until August 3. Once you spot him, head to the library for a raffle ticket for a chance to win a stuffed animal version of Shelvis. There will be 6 winners.
Children in preschool or younger can challenge themselves all year long to read 365 new-to-you books. Sign up at the desk and get your family's photo on our Hall of Fame.
Summer Reading starts on June 16 and ends on August 23. Teens entering grades 6-12 can submit a shelf-talker to win a prize. You can submit online, so you can submit from anywhere!
When you submit a shelf-talker, you will receive 1 free scoop to Cal's Creamery, as well as a raffle ticket for a gift card. You can submit more than one shelf-talker for multiple raffle prizes, but only 1 free scoop per teen. If you attend a program this summer, you also can fill out a raffle ticket.
Your raffle tickets are entered into drawings for:
A Dunkin Donuts gift card
A Whitelam Books gift card
A Cafe Nero gift card
This year, adults and teens are invited to attend silent reading parties. These parties will feature comfy areas to read, snacks, and moments for discussion afterward. Attend one or attend all three!
Place a hold on any of these titles through the library catalog. Consult your school's official summer reading information for additional requirements.
