Summer Events at the Library

We’ve got a great summer schedule for you!

We are thrilled to announce a new Friends Speaker Series,  sponsored by the Friends of the Reading Public Library.  This speaker series features best-selling authors and engaging speakers.  This series debuts on Monday, June 3, at 2 pm. with a speaker who’s out of this world. You’re invited to come learn alongside Matt Shindell, National Air and Space Museum curator, as he introduces viewers to historical figures who have made sense of Mars and its secrets, in an online discussion of the book For the Love of Mars: A Human History of the Red Planet via digital live-stream.  Join us in the Studio to live-stream this event.

Come celebrate culture and community at the Fourth Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival on Saturday, June 15, from 1:00-7:00 pm on the Reading Common. Celebrating the anniversary of the freedom granted to enslaved African Americans, Freedom Fest centers around music, food, and celebrating black culture. The entire community is invited to help create a space of belonging for BIPOC residents, visitors, students/families, and businesses. This event is sponsored by the Office of Equity and Social Justice, the Town of Reading, and the Reading Public Library.

Get ready for Summer Sizzlers!  On Friday, June 21st at 7 pm, join us for Summer Sizzlers, a night of speedy book reviews from some of your favorite library staff. Bring your wallet and friends to enjoy cash bar mocktails to pair with your new summer reading list, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Doors open at 6:30; arrive early for the best seating.

We are excited to bring the Whalemobile to Reading!  Join us on Monday, July 1st at the RMHS Field House to tour the Whalemobile.  Registration is required and opens on June 10th.

Is your Teen into STEAM?  Have them sign up for one or all of our Guild Hall workshops where they can create a flying machine, a combat robot or a Gondola!

Special thanks to the Friends of the Reading Public Library for generously funding many of our programs.
