Reading Public Library

Our Library Just Got Greener – Here’s Why That’s Awesome!

Have you spotted the new additions to our library? Between the bookshelves, you’ll now find some leafy new friends. They’re part of our “Rooted in Reading” program, and they’re here to make your library time even better.

These plants do more than just look nice. Think of them as natural air filters. While you’re reading, they’re hard at work cleaning the air by taking in carbon dioxide and giving off fresh oxygen. They also help remove harmful chemicals from the air, making every breath you take cleaner. (Link to list of beneficial indoor plants  and link to list of books about House Plants @ RPL)

Being around plants can actually change how you feel. Feeling stressed about that big test? Our green companions might help with that. Scientists have found that having plants nearby helps people feel more relaxed and happier. Even better, they can help you concentrate when studying or doing homework.

Plus, these plants make our library feel more welcoming and less like a plain old study space. Research shows something really cool: people who work or study in rooms with plants tend to be more creative and get more work done. It’s like the plants give your brain a little boost!

So the next time you’re in the library, take a look around at our new green team members. They’re not just decorations – they’re here to help make your library visits better in every way. Whether you’re here to study, read, or just hang out, our plant friends are working behind the scenes to make it an even better experience.
