Reading Public Library

Land Acknowledgement

A land acknowledgement is a statement which offers recognition, and respect for those who originally lived on the land where we now work and reside. This land acknowledgement reflects the Reading Public Library’s mission and our core values of education and accountability. Our staff researched the story of the land the Reading Public Library rests on and we wish to share it with you, to honor the truth of Indigenous and American history.

Land Acknowledgement

The Reading Public Library is located on the seized ancestral lands of the Pawtucket band of the Massachusett tribe. Pawtucket, now called Lynn, is a vast territory that extends from the Piscataqua River in New Hampshire down to the Charles River.  The Massachusett tribe are the descendants of the original people that the English first encountered in what is now the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  We encourage everyone to learn more about the indigenous people that originated on this land.
